How to promote your site

As a web developer I wanted to get my site out there so people can find me.  I can then hopefully turn those people into clients.  Now I could have gone round and spent ages registering myself but why when selfpromotion achieved this for me.  The infomation on his site is excellent and though I only registered on his site on the 20/06/2006 I've yet to see the results, but I'm very hopefull and after reading what others have said I had nothing to lose.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

I could rattle on for hours and hours about SEO, but since someone else has already done it for me, I won't reinvent the wheel.  Just take a look at selfpromotion.com website.

I took this quote straight off the website as I found it says it all.

Site promotion is really not that difficult. It just takes a little bit of effort, a little bit of thought, and a fair amount of patience. It is crucial to understand that site promotion is a long-term, low-intensity effort. It can take weeks or months to get into the search engines, and years to develop a site that gets top rankings. So don't be overwhelmed by all the tutorials and tips on this site; you don't have to do all of this overnight. The #1 mistake people make is rushing! Take your time, slow down, read the articles, think about how they apply to your website, and then proceed. Many people have told me that they print out my pages and keep them in the bathroom, of all places!

Selfpromotion If you have a website you want to promote, you should check out selfpromotion.com. It is a resource for do-it-yourselfers where you can learn to prepare your pages for the search engines, then use a sophisticated url submission robot to submit your webpages to all the important search engines and directories. You will also find tutorials about website promotion, submitting to yahoo, and much more. Best of all, you can use the site for free -- if you like it, pay what you think it is worth! the guy who runs it has reinvented tipping!
You can become a partner and help promote the outstanding work thats been done.
